This piece captures a breaking ocean wave at its most dramatic — a dark, brooding sky rendered through the raw applewood grain creates a stormy horizon, while the wave’s crest bursts forward in richly textured impasto foam. Translucent green-tinted water bodies glow within the swell, and a delicate wash of retreating water thins across warm sandy shore below. The natural grain of the applewood is woven intentionally into the composition, its horizontal lines echoing the layered rhythms of sea, shoreline and sky. A meditation on raw elemental energy.
Where the first piece evokes drama, this work radiates luminous energy. Sunlight appears to pass through the shallow, suspended body of the wave, casting a vivid yellow-green glow that is the painting’s beating heart.
