A rare departure from my monochrome and gold, The Deep introduces blue and pink into the palette: a combination used exclusively in this piece in the collection.
Seven female faces appear across a canvas fractured into clean, abstract sections, each space bordered by removed tape and layered with texture and tone. The faces vary in size and placement, but all share one thing: their eyes are closed.
Their expressions hover somewhere between calm and withdrawn: not passive, but practiced. One figure’s hair drifts in soft motion. Another is rendered in a distinctly digital, pixelated technique: a subtle reminder that even our inner worlds are increasingly fragmented by modern noise.
This piece speaks to the different times we’ve had to retreat inward, not to vanish, but to survive. Each face represents a version of you that held the line when the world demanded more than you could give. Each segment, a compartment you built in order to carry on.
