A study in contrast, both in medium and meaning. This piece is built from a void: a canvas gesso’d black, pulled gently into form using white to reveal the faint, serene face of a woman with her eyes rested. Around her, chaotic markings suggesting damage and wear. Dark splashes and oil-like scars hinting at hardship and exposure. And yet, she rests. Calm.
Across her surface are hand-torn lines of iridescent gold: my signature technique, shimmering only when caught in the right light. They suggest movement, energy, maybe even memory. But they don’t disturb her.
This piece is about finding that impossible breath in the middle of the storm. Not after the chaos. Not before. During. That moment of internal pause. The kind that saves you. The kind you earn.
