Marilyn by Metin is a bold, contemporary portrait series that reimagines an iconic feminine muse through intense colour, inversion, and digital distortion. Metin Salih strips the figure of literal realism, replacing it with charged hues, negative space, and fluid mark-making that transform a familiar image into something visceral and psychological.
Each work plays with contrast and saturation, electric blues, acid yellows, luminous pinks, and stark monochrome, using colour not as decoration but as emotion. The face becomes a surface for energy and tension, where light and shadow dissolve into painterly movement. Gestural lines and soft blurs evoke motion, fragility, and inner turmoil, while the recurring pose anchors the series with a sense of recognition and repetition.
This body of work explores themes of fame, identity, and perception, questioning how cultural icons are constructed, consumed, and reinterpreted over time. By pushing the image into abstraction, Metin invites the viewer to move beyond nostalgia and surface beauty, engaging instead with mood, memory, and sensation. The result is a striking fusion of digital technique and expressive portraiture, contemporary, provocative, and unmistakably bold.
