LUCE (aka SARA)

Born and raised in Jersey, I left the island at 18 years old to go to University to study Football Studies in Southampton, England.  My life has always been a split between sport and art, but very rarely do they ever mix.

Pencil, Graphite and Colour are my favourite mediums, as they give me full control.  The world is an unpredictable place, but my drawings are the one thing I have complete control over.  That makes drawing my happy place.

However, I do like to try lots of different materials to keep things interesting with some experimentation now and then.

At a young age I think it was obvious I wanted to draw and create.  I remember causing a bit of chaos by colouring in TV remotes with permanent ink pens and every New Year’s Eve when everyone else was dancing, I was sat drawing at the table.

I drew my first proper graphite artwork when I was around 15 years old.  It was when The Flash TV show came out.  It was my favourite show and I had to draw him!  From there, I drew more superhero’s, more pop-culture characters and then got into doing pet portraits and animals.

I’m not deeply knowledgeable about the art world and most, if not all, of my artist role models are those I follow on Instagram.  As the only formal art training I had was GCSE art, I have learnt a lot of handy tips and tricks from fellow Instagram artists.

I hope my drawings catch people’s eye.  I like black and white as I can make it high contrast, which helps bring out the details in the subject.  But that’s not to say colour doesn’t play a role.  I believe colour is so important in the world and I love using black & white and colour in the same image as a different kind of contrast.
